Katherine Long
                                  Ponca City, OK

Ayurvedic Cooking & Juicing "101"

Kat Long is a foodie from way back, having been raised by a mother from Peru, South America that spent more than 30 percent of the household budget on home cooked food during her formative years.   After successfully healing a personal health crisis with food (not surgery) six years ago, she decided to take control not only of her food, but the food that was being fed to her immediate family and friends.  This included researching local markets for grass fed beef, lamb, chicken and dairy as well as growing her own produce (and eggs) or buying locally when available.   Currently employed as the DataMaster by the Ponca City Development Authority, she also teaches tap and ballet, volunteers at the Ponca Playhouse and regularly invites people over for lunch to sample the difference between “fast food” and “real food”.   Recently, Long has started writing a gardening column about her own garden experiences for the local newspaper and is self-named the “Backyard Gardener” because “that is where the garden is; right next to the chicken pen”.    Long has been “cooking Ayurvedic” for only a short time, but considers it another way to add value to “real food” and heal the body without the need for antibiotics, surgery or over the counter drugs.

                                                                                    Tulsa, OK

Percussion and Vocal Ensemble

Sistas in Rhythm is a Tulsa-based percussion and vocal ensemble that evolved from a weekly West African drumming class. The “Sistas” have all traveled extensively learning from teachers such as Grammy Award winners, Babatunde Olatunji and  Gordy Ryan, who played with Babatunde Olatunji for over 30 years.

All members are deeply dedicated to spreading the power and connection to others through music. Using instruments such as jdunjduns, djembes, ashikos, shekeres, balafons and a variety of instruments from all over the world, the “Sistas” perform traditional African rhythms and songs.

The Sistas in Rhythm are seasoned performers, teachers, and multi-instrumentalists. They are available for special events performances and drum circles, where all levels of hand drumming experience are welcome. http://www.universalsandbox.com
